about the Artist

LEE HYUNGJUN

Lee Young-jun, who studied design at the École des Beaux-Arts
in Orléans, France, is a designer and maker with a distinctive
perspective. His works metaphorically express, in a sculptural
language, the coexistence of nature and artificial objects
through speed, efficiency, and mass production made possible
by machines within the vast flow of nature. They offer viewers
a chance to reflect on our own image within the industrialized
modern society.

PIPE FITTING LAMPE

Industrial materials, mass-produced in factories, often possess a sense of strength
and rigidity. Pipe fittings, as man-made objects, share characteristics similar to
those of wood. But unlike nature, they lack vitality. My goal is to reinterpret the
essence of both artificial and natural elements and express them through my work.
Pipe fittings — with their flexibility, autonomy, and inherent sense of direction —
are industrial components used to control or redirect the flow of substances. They
guide movement from large to small, small to large, from below to above, and vice
versa — connecting or blocking flow in all directions. Through the act of assembling
these components, I create forms that resemble wood. The finely crafted textures and
hand-carved wood motifs infuse these artificial materials with the energy of nature,
resulting in something that feels alive. To give artificial objects a sense of
presence and vitality is a distinctly human ability — and it's this ability that
I aim to explore and express through my work.
