about the Artist

OH SUNJOO

Sunjoo Oh is an artist who works to reveal the colors and
textures inherent in clay. She mainly creates objects that are
placed warmly and quietly within everyday scenes. Sometimes,
to highlight the natural feel of the clay itself, she mixes
different materials in her work. After shaping is complete,
she devotes great care to finely sanding the surface so that
the soft touch when touched by hand becomes an attractive feature.
In terms of form, she maximizes the areas where the clay is
exposed to expand the parts that catch the viewer’s eye first.
She also incorporates the natural feel of clay within modern
ceramic shapes. She draws inspiration mainly from nature and
objects and materials related to it.

Spreading wing bowl SMALL MIDIUM LARGE

Using a blended mixed material, the form was shaped through wheel
throwing and carving, then the surface of the clay, fired at high temperature,
was polished like a pebble to complete the piece.
It is an object that embodies the image of wings spreading wide.
